Today in head-desk news, NY Daily News and a variety of sources report that The Candie’s Foundation, a nonprofit that fights teen pregnancy by promoting abstinence, paid Bristol Palin $262,500 for her work as their spokesperson in 2009. ThinkProgress did the math and found that Bristol’s salary was about seven times what the foundation spent on actually preventing teen pregnancy: the group disbursed only $35,000 in grants to actual teen pregnancy health and counseling clinics: $25,000 to the Mt. Sinai Adolescent Health Center and $10,000 to the National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy Wow, being a walking incarnation of Learn From My Fail sure must have a high overhead! Selena Gomez Gets in the Halloween Spirit
Happily getting an early start on the Halloween festivities, Selena Gomez paid a visit to Knott’s Berry Farm’s Halloween Haunt in Buena Park on Saturday night (October 24). The Disney darling was already fully into the Halloween spirit, smiling as she posed with some costume clad monsters at the annual event. Meanwhile, Miss Gomez happens to be the spokesperson for this year’s Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF, of which she tweeted last night, “7 days til Halloween…….Be sure to tune into the UNICEF live chat on October 29th at 4pm PST.”Of the money-raising efforts, Selena previously told press: “Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF invites children and adults alike to make Halloween count by joining UNICEF to do whatever it takes to help save children’s lives.”
