Remember high school? When you were clueless in the ways of style and personal grooming but desperate to stand out from the crown in some way, so much so that in a hail-Mary attempt to be noticed for something—anything—you shaved your eyebrows into a wonky pattern the morning of school picture day?
No? Uh, me either.
I am really glad that I don’t live in a world where whatever we’re thinking about is displayed in our haircut. I would hate to spend every day sporting a grilled cheese sandwich on the back of my head.

I have a variety of reactions to beards. Sometimes I find that they look distinguished. Other times I think they can be affected or intimidating.
Rarely has a beard ever made me want to punch someone in the face. Obviously I’m not the first person to react this way—you know that spike in his lip is a matter of personal security.
