Chindogu: the Japanese Art of “Holy Crap What is the Hell is That?”


If you’re on the internet pretty much ever, there’s a good chance you’ve stumbled on a photo depicting what the Japanese call “Chindogu.” Directly translated as “unusual tool,” Chindogu is the art of innovation taken to a whole new level of weird. Popularized in 1995 by Japanese inventor Kenji Kawakami, it’s since made its way Stateside in various galleries through the country
