Scientists at Tulane University have discovered a strain of bacteria that turns cellulose in old newspapers into butanol . Butanol is similar to ethanol, but you don’t have to modify a gasoline-using engine to use it, and it’s more energy-dense than ethanol is, closer to conventional gasoline.
